MANTELPIECE: The mantelpiece is the focal point of a fireplace, providing a decorative shelf above the firebox. made from various materials including wood, stone or marble; it often serves as a display area for artwork, photos or treasured heirlooms

FIREBOX: The firebox is the enclosed area where the fire burns. Traditionally made of brick or stone, modern fireboxes may feature cast iron or steel for improved heat efficiency. Firebox designs can vary from open hearths to enclosed inserts with galss doors

CHIMNEY: The chimney is the vertical structure which vents smoke and gasses from the firebox to the outside. Constructed with bricks, stone or metal, the chimney is as integral part of the firpelace

HEARTH: The hearth is the part of the fireplace where the fire burns. This incudes the floor of the fireplace and the area in front and was traditionally a raised platform of stone or brick serving as a practical and protective element.
