Winchcombe Reclamation: Specialists in Reclaimed Cotswold Stone Tiles
For Centuries, stone roofs have shaped the distinctive landscape of the Cotswolds. Their warm limestone tones, gently weathered appearance and traditional craftsmanship are instantly recognisable and make them an integral part of the area’s architectural heritage. At Winchcombe Reclamation, preserving that heritage is at the heart of our business.
Every roof tells a story – some have sheltered Cotswold cottages for hundreds of years, while others have protected farm buildings, manor houses and village churches. Rather than allowing these valuable materials to be lost during redevelopment or renovation, we carefully recover them so that they can continue their working life on another historic building.
As one of the UK’s leading specialist Cotswold stone tile merchants, Winchcombe Reclamation has decades of experience in all aspects of traditional stone roofing and provides an expert, personal service.
We offer a professional roof stripping service
When we purchase a stone roof, each project is carefully planned to ensure material is recovered safely and efficiently. Our aim is always to maximise the amount of re-usable stone recovered, while protecting both the building and the integrity of the tiles themselves. Services include a free, no obligation site visit to assess salvaged value, provision of suitable plant and labour to safely remove roofing material, the provision of crates and transport to remove salvage material and the resposible disposal of any unusable material
Every tile is carefully assessed
Not every reclaimed stone tile is suitable for another roof. Once the material arrives at our yard, each tile is individually inspected by our experienced team and assessed for structural soundness. We process every tile in-house. Each stone is painstakingly cut, hand dressed, re-drilled and graded before entering our stock. Only tiles that meet our quality standards are selected for re-use. This careful grading process ensures that our customers receive reclaimed Cotswold stone tiles that they can specify with confidence.
Supporting heritage projects
Traditional Cotswold stone roofs are laid in diminishing courses, with larger stone tiles at the bottom of the roof, gradually reducing in size towards the ridge. Achieving this correctly requires far more than simply supplying enough stone by area. Our reclaimed stone tiles are carefully sorted and processed to help create roofs that not only perform well but also retain the authentic appearance expected on historic buildings. Whether you are replacing a small quantity of damaged tiles or sourcing tiles for a complete re-roof, we are able to advise on suitable materials, estimate quantities required and provide battening guides. Each order is put together on a bespoke basis, ensuring the correct mix of sizes to recreate traditional diminishing courses. These orders are carefully stacked by size and clearly labelled.
